Excited Over My Next Project!!!

I'm so excited about my next project that I have to give you a glimpse of what I am up to.  Did I say next?  I still have two sweaters to finish which are almost done, a scarf and another neck warmer.  Perhpas this will be my Christmas timeoff, vacation, heavenly week.

Do I have your attention?  Let me tease you a little bit!  It's always so much fun to do that!

Four skeins of Cascade 220 from my LYS.  Only three is needed but I am not taking the chance of running short.  Cascade 220....does that give you a clue?  100% wool.  The project has to be wool.  Still wondering, well, read on.  On second thougth, read on anyway.

I can already feel each one of those strands slipping through my fingers as I anxiously wind the yarn off my umbrella swift.  I'll feel the love of those same strands of yarn as I knit each stitch of my pattern.

Silly men, (and I suppose some women also) like to say they get twice the heat when chopping wood.  Once, from the elevated body heat while chopping, and again heat when burning the wood.

I'll get twice the heat from this yarn and it's so much easier....well, almost.  Once as it rests in my lap as it grows row by row and again when I wear it.  Oh, yes, I forgot.....this project is not worn in the true sense of the word.

Ok, I've kept you in suspense long enough........

I'm knitting the "Lucy Bag" (<----click)as shown in the picture below on their web site.

I knitted this bag for my younger daughter and loved it.  My older daughter has also knitted it for herelf.

My plan is to knit the bag, line it and needle felt a bird on the lower right (or left) of the bag.  Today, I was on a hunt to find lining fabric.  I really wanted a chickadee on a pine tree branch.  Chickadees and pine trees are my beloved home State of Maine's state symbols.  The material below is what I found.  Now, it's to decide which bird to needle felt.  This one..........

...or this one!!!.....

....or this one!!!

...or this one!!!!

I spoiled myself as well and purchased Brooklyn Tweed's (a/ka Jared Flood) new book.  It's no surprise that every pattern in this book is gorgeous.

Happy Knitting!!

  1. Oh I love the Lucy bag and Cascade 220. Personally, I'd go for the bird with blue wings.

  2. Love the yarn ... Yes I love the bluebird but with the color of yarn I'd most likely use # 2 picture .. Can't wait to see which you choose.

  3. I've always wanted to knit the Lucy bag!! I like the blue chickadee the best. I think it will show up beautifully on that fiber!

  4. Okay, I am going quadruple the vote for the blue bird, it will go best on the red- which is totally gorgeous.

Several of my friends have made the Lucy bag, and they always look great. So, I know yours will be absolutely stunning!

  5. I had my Made in Brooklyn signed by Flood back in Sept. at my LYS.

  6. Great to hear you excited about your knitting again. I'm so hooked on socks right now. Now that I can wear jeans, I have my small project bag hooked on them whenever I leave the house and knit on the go everywhere.

  7. Wow, what fun! Enjoy your gorgeous red wool, your bag, and the book!

  8. Luscious color. I always wanted to ask this, but have been too embarrassed to when I read it over and over on blogs...I'm sure it's something I should know; or did and forgot? What's LYS mean?

I'm trying to finish all my WIP, both knitted and crocheted by the end of the year. I'm trying to not even look at the sales that are going on now...though I cheated and did see some great buys in the paper today.........sigh

My headway is slow; I look more organized which is nice; but still I fear I have too many WIP's. Not even sure I remember what I was doing on all them. Now thats bad.

  9. What gorgeous yarn!! Love it.

Sandy, I'm assuming LYS stands for Local Yarn Shop.

  10. That color of red is gorgeous! I also would choose the blue bird. can't wait to see it when it is all done.

  11. Beautiful yarn! Have fun playing with it! As for the birds, Goldfinches--hmm, sounds like they should be in a James Bond movie, as opposed to, say, The (sweet little gentle) Bluebird of Happiness. Heh.

  12. Oh my I've missed several of your posts, those cute grandchildren!! You certainly have been very busy lately :).

All 3 of those birds are awesome, why not knit 3 bags and then decide which one :P. I'm not much help am I :P.

  13. I'm excited for you. The yarn looks so nice. I can't wait to see your Lucy Bag. I vote for the blue bird.

  14. Ooooh, how exciting! I love me a great felted bag. I'll bring you some of mine to show you this afternoon. I used to do so many, and they are such a great project -- so satisfying. I'd go with the yellow bird, myself.

  15. I can see why you are excited about your "next" project! That is some gorgeous red yarn!

The felted bags look like fun!
